CoastLine: Cape Fear History from the Confederacy to Cultural Arts

Jul 1, 2015

Did you know that the great jazz singer and bandleader Cab Calloway has played Wilmington?

Or that a group of slaves working at the Bellamy Mansion during the Civil War hijacked a skiff and sailed to the Union Blockade seeking asylum?  Or that the first Charlestown in the Southeast started in Brunswick County?

In-studio guests:

Tony Rivenbark is the Executive Director of the Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts.  He’s also written a book, Images of America:  Thalian Hall,  documenting the history of the building that has, for so many decades, served as the seat of the cultural and political landscape in Wilmington.

Ben Steelman is a well-known staff reporter and columnist at the StarNews.  He's also the organizer and host of WHQR’s live Prologue events – the Monday night book discussions in the MC Erny Gallery.
