Cinematique Presents: "Step"

Aug 31, 2017

The film runs Monday, September 25th - Friday, September 29th at the Ruth and Bucky Stein Theatre. Monday - Friday the film will be shown at 7pm and another show on Wednesday at 4pm. "Step is life!" - More than just a hobby for a trio of high school seniors at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, the step dance team represents an escape and an outlet, a way out, and a way to express themselves.

Step documents the senior year of the step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest in the troubled city.

From the critics:

"Inspirational and moving, Step is full of heart, with a kicking beat: highly recommended."

Zoe Margolis, CineView

"There are many films that attempt to illuminate the world through pain, but Step is most instructive in its moments of joy."

Emily Yoshida,  New York Magazine/Vulture
