In director Ira Sachs' wonderful new film, Little Men, a new pair of best friends have their bond tested by their parents' battle over a dress shop lease. When 13-year-old Jake's grandfather dies, his family moves from Manhattan back into his father's old Brooklyn home. There, Jake befriends the charismatic Tony, whose single mother, a dressmaker from Chile, runs the shop downstairs. When Jake’s parents ask her to sign a new, steeper lease on her store, a feud ignites between the adults. While the two boys discover the pleasures of being young in Brooklyn and share dreams of going to the same prestigious arts high school together, they still can't avoid the problems of their parents forever, and soon enough, the adult conflict intrudes upon the borders of their friendship. Starring Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Ehle. (Runtime: 85 minutes, Rated PG)
“It's time to realize that Ira Sachs is a modern master. Little Men, with its two boys racing at life with the brick wall of maturity still at a distance, is truly an exhilarating gift." -Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
“Shoring together small moments from the lives of believable characters, in a manner free of special effects and fluky plotting, and with the same dramatic and visual gusto one would apply to an epic is what independent filmmaking should be all about.” -Scott Marks, San Diego Reader
