Cinematique Presents: "Lady Bird"

From Monday, January 15th, to Wednesday, January 17th, Lady Bird will be shown in Thalian Hall's Main Stage Theatre. The film will play Monday to Wednesday at 7pm with an additional screening on Wednesday at 4pm.

In a film receiving a perfect 100% on rottentomatoes.com, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom, a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. Stars Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, and Tracey Letts.

From the Critics

“Watching “Lady Bird” is like flipping through a high school yearbook with an old friend, with each page leading to another anecdote, another sweet-and-sour memory. It’s a tonic to see any movie, especially in this late-Harvey Weinstein era, that does right by its female characters, that explores what it means to be a young woman on the cusp of adulthood, and that speaks the languages of sincerity and wit.” Michael Phillips, The Chicago Tribune
“Snappy, spirited and shot through with the pangs and pleasures of leaving childhood behind, Lady Bird is a sharp-witted solo first feature by actress and now writer-director Greta Gerwig.” Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter
