In early 2013, Laura Poitras was several years into the making of a film about post 9/11 surveillance when she began receiving mysterious emails from someone who would only identify themselves as Citizen Four. The emails revealed a plot to expose several covert surveillance operations that were run by the NSA at the time. In June 2013, Poitras flew to Hong Kong for the first of many meetings with the man who would eventually be identified as Ed Snowden. The film that resulted from this series of tense meetings is absolutely unique in the history of cinema: a 100% real life thriller. (R, 1hr 54 min)
