Carolina Beach Mushroom Bust

Wilmington, NC – Carolina Beach police say they've cracked the largest mushroom growth operation in the county. Carolina Beach Police arrested two people in the bust over the weekend. The month-long investigation began when police were tipped off the pair was selling marijuana and chocolate mushroom bars to Carolina Beach residents in February. Carolina Beach Police Chief William Younginer says these kinds of drug operations are dangerous.

"My concern with it, usually our manufacturing operations, is the number of drugs the visitors get exposed to. They come down here and visit and we'll have overdoses because they're drinking, they're using marijuana they may try some heroin so now they're gonna try mushrooms on top of that. They get too much in their system, they're young people."

Younginer says he hopes the bust sends a message that drugs aren't welcome at Carolina Beach.
