CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Painting Resumes

If you plan to use the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge between now and the end of May, state transportation officials would advise building in some extra travel time.

As WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn reports, paint crews are working to finish the job they started months ago.

The state Department of Transportation says crews are applying a much-needed coat of protective paint to the 43-year-old bridge.  The project has been underway for months – but the DOT has had to interrupt the work several times – most recently to finish some electrical and mechanical repairs. One lane in each direction will be closed – every day – from 9 AM to 3 PM through the end of May.   And full bridge closures will be in effect each night, with the exception of Friday evenings, for the duration of the project.

When in doubt about closures or traffic delays, the Isabel Holmes Bridge is a good alternate route for those coming in and out of Wilmington.

BRIDGE CLOSURE PLANS:

Daily 9 AM - 3 PM:  One lane in each direction

Full closures nightly -- Sunday through Thursday:  8 PM to 6 AM; Saturday nights from 11 PM to 10 AM on Sundays.
