CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Cape Fear Community College President Resigns

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – The President of Cape Fear Community College has turned in his resignation. Eric McKeithan made the announcement Monday to faculty and staff.

McKeithan landed the president's job at Cape Fear Community College in 1994 and since then has increased the number of faculty, enrollment and expanded the campus.

McKeithan says he realized he accomplished his goals for the college when he learned last month that it received a flawless accreditation report.

McKeithan says he will stay on as president until next July. After that he's not sure what's in store.

I've used the word resignation rather than retirement because I'm, I just don't see myself pulling a rocking chair up to the front porch, that doesn't factor into my picture.

McKeithan says a number of Cape Fear Community College's top officials are near retirement themselves, so his retirement now will give the new president time to transition in the next generation of college leaders.

McKeithan says he will keep Wilmington as his home base.
