CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE: Updates, resources, and context

Bridges and Overpasses Icing Up; Road Conditions Deteriorating

Rachel Lewis Hilburn
A garbage truck makes its way down Front Street in downtown Wilmington at 7 AM.

As the frozen precipitation continues in the Cape Fear region, more wrecks are being reported.

Scott Garner, Director of Emergency Services for Brunswick County, says vehicle accidents have happened across the County -- from Leland to Calabash.  Cars have slid into the median on the Leland Causeway, says Garner.  And, as expected, bridges and overpasses are icing up more quickly which is where the majority of problems are occurring.

The National Weather Service is expecting sleet and freezing rain to continue until 10 PM Tuesday night.

Garner also says cars have slid into the median on the Leland Causeway, and his advice for those considering travel today is simple:

"It's really just better to stay put and stay off the roads."
