Bev Perdue Touts Incentives Despite Dell's Departure

By Laurin Penland

Wilmington, NC – Governor Bev Perdue signed an executive order today at EUE Screen Gems in Wilmington, reauthorizing the North Carolina Film Council. At the event, the governor insisted that incentive packages are good for North Carolina despite the recent closure of Dell Computers.

Perdue says her foot is on the gas pedal for film incentives. The latest increase of North Carolina's incentives kicks in January.

Perdue says she wants to prevent businesses from going to other states. And says it was a humbling experience when the Nicholas Sparks' film chose Georgia over North Carolina.

"I have the secretary of commerce and his people reviewing not just the film incentive but all the incentives. I'm announcing another expansion of Talecris, one of the world's largest pharma companies in Johnson County. Heaven knows they wouldn't have stayed here unless I could compete."

Perdue says North Carolina's biggest competition for businesses comes from Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama.
