Ben David Declines Nomination
By Laurin Penland
Wilmington, NC – Ben David, District Attorney for New Hanover and Pender Counties, says he's running for re-election in 2010. So, he turned down the nomination by U.S. Senator Kay Hagan for U.S. Attorney of Eastern North Carolina.
David was one of three nominees for U.S. Attorney of Eastern North Carolina. In a released statement, David declined the nomination and says he's staying in Wilmington.
David says he loves his job as D.A. for New Hanover and Pender Counties and that he still has work to do.
"Even though this job is challenging some days, it's a lot easier being a father of three with children under five as the district attorney than I thought it would be as the U.S. attorney that would require a lot more travel covering 44 counties."
He says he wants to keep raising his family in Wilmington and that it would be many years before he would consider leaving. David has been in office since 2004.
