Baseball on the Cape Fear River?

Wilmington City Council announced today they have finalized the total cost of the proposed baseball stadium.  However, WHQR’s Andrew Jarachovic reports that negotiations between the City and Mandalay and the Atlanta Braves partnership are continuing.

Costs of the baseball stadium will be $37 million.  That includes construction and land costs.

At its regular Tuesday meeting, city council will vote to place the bond issue on the November ballot.  However, since all the financial details have not yet been agreed upon, council has taken an item allowing the mayor to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the baseball partnership off tomorrow night's agenda.

Mayor Saffo says the city’s been trying for years to enhance the riverfront.

BITE:  “We would be one of probably a dozen cities in the entire country of major as well as minor league baseball that has a baseball multi-use facility on the river.  The Cape Fear River.”

The cost to bring baseball to Wilmington will be 2.5 cents per $100 of property value.
