During a sewer spill yesterday along River Road in Wilmington, more than one million gallons of sewage may have flowed into Barnards Creek in Wilmington.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Spokesperson Carey Ricks says that crews have been working around the clock to repair a section of pipe, a job that caused closures on River Road near Independence Boulevard and Sanders Road.
Authority staff members have confirmed that all of River Road is open once again to traffic and they ask that motorists use caution as crews continue working at the scene.
Staff members are also still investigating the cause of the spill and calculating the exact spill volume, which is estimated at anywhere from 750,000 to 1.4 million gallons of waste water.
