Atkinson Gets Funding for Clean Water

Wilmington, NC –

Atkinson's only a square mile, and it's roughly 3-hundred residents will no longer have to drink well water thanks to funding from the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

Atkinson Mayor Jack Turner says well water is not always clean.

"So many people are having more rust in their water, more calcium in their water. Plus we had some contamination from some service stations and gas stations."

The USDA says there were also concerns about the age of the wells and their proximity to septic tanks. Michelle Bliss, WHQR News.
