Andrea "surprising opening to hurricane season," opportunity to practice preparedness

Jun 6, 2013

Tropical Storm Andrea is expected to make her way through the Coastal Carolinas Friday morning. And while emergency officials aren’t sounding any alarms, they are telling people to monitor the situation.

Anthony Marzano, Director of Emergency Management for Brunswick County:

Tonight would be a great opportunity to make sure that those batteries are charged up. When we get home from work today, if we have any lawn furniture, it’s probably a good idea to bring those into the garage where they’re not going to blow around in the wind. Just real common sense things that people can do to prepare for the fact that it’s going to be a really wet, really windy, really crummy day tomorrow.

While this storm is not likely to cause much damage or catastrophic flooding, Marzano says it’s a bit of a surprising opening to hurricane season. And it’s a great demonstration as to why people should be ready with disaster supply kits and family plans.
