Sara is a first-year creative nonfiction student in the MFA program at UNCW. She earned a B.A. in Journalism from Columbia College, and attended the radio program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. She's written for newspapers, audio tours and public radio. After spending the past five years with the Pacific Ocean (which includes one sad surfing attempt), she looks forward to spending some quality time with the Atlantic.

National Sports Service, a consulting firm hired by the City of Wilmington, presented its updated findings last night from its feasibility study of whether or not to bring a baseball team to town.

April Unemployment Rates Continue to Decline

NHCo. Democratic Board Candidates Barfield, Zapple and Murray Win Primary

In last night’s primary, three democratic candidates for New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will move to the ballot in November, including, as WHQR’s Sara Wood reports, incumbent Vice-Chairman Jonathan Barfield.

Barfield led the pack all evening, winning with 34.5 percent. Newcomer Rob Zapple followed behind Barfield with almost 29 percent. He says it’s been a long and steady road to get to this point.
