Host, Classical Music and Midday Interviews

It took Jemila a long time to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up. She is now primarily an actress and storyteller who fell into Public Radio announcing and discovered she loved it.  She has worked for WHQR off and on for thirteen years. In addition to racking up film and TV credits whenever she can, Jemila frequently performs weddings (as an ordained interfaith minister), and still misses another favorite job— as a shepherdess to a flock of thirty sheep in the mountains of NC. She is currently studying to be an animal communicator.

Melissa Franklin & Autism Service Dogs of America

I spoke with Melissa Franklin, a 20-year old high-functioning autistic woman.  She has been approved to get a service dog from Autism Service Dogs of America, and is currently raising funds to pay for her dog.  She needs $6,500… and has about $3000 in hand.  A series of fundraisers are planned, including one tomorrow from 4 to 8 pm at BrrrBerry’s Ice Cream in Mayfaire (next to the Harris Teeter).

Hello, Dolly!

My guests today were director/choreographer Ray Kennedy, and actor/singer/dancers Dylan Fowler and Mary Stewart Evans.  Opera House Theatre Company opens Hello, Dolly!  Tomorrow night on the mainstage of Thalian Hall.  The musical runs Wed-Sat @ 8, Sun @ 3.  It runs for 2 weekends after that, Fri & Sat @ 8, Sun at 3.

Master Class

Auditions for "The Color Purple"
