Graduate fellow Jason Hess is a second year MFA student in creative nonfiction writing at UNCW. Jason is originally from Scappoose, Oregon. He holds a BA in Spanish and English from the University of Idaho. His studies and wanderlust have brought him to live in Costa Rica, Idaho, Spain, and now North Carolina.

 Nancy Stoner, with the help of her service dog, makes a disturbing discovery about the home life of one of her students in a reading group. Stoner recalls the sadness and significance of the event: “Through a therapy dog, this boy’s life was changed.” (April 11, 2011)
