Emily is a second-year student in UNCW’s Graduate Liberal Studies program and is seeking her Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Women’s and Gender Studies. She is originally from the foothills of North Carolina and has received degrees in communications and creative writing. In her spare time when Emily is not traveling the world she volunteers as a cat foster for the All 4 Cats rescue organization, plays skee ball in the national Brewskee-Ball league, and shares her tales from the road in her travel blog; MyCarryOnLuggage.com.

Roughly 100 refugees resettle in Wilmington each year. On the next Coastline, we’ll hear from one man who spent more than half his life in a refugee camp before finding his way to the Cape Fear region.

This coming weekend WHQR will air the Soup to Nuts Live! concert that we recorded with the pop-folk duo, Chasing Opal. Tune in this Friday and Saturday for the fun and upbeat music of Chasing Opal.

Don Gonyea's April 13th visit to Wilmington, NC was met with great success. Gonyea is a Peabody Award-winning journalist with decades of experience, and is currently NPR's National Political Correspondent. With Gonyea's experience comes many fascinating and often amusing stories, including tales about previous presidential campaigns, working with past presidents, and pounding the cement to get another side to a story.

On Thursday, March 3, 2016, WHQR Public Radio announced the beginning of the public phase of its emPowering Our Future Campaign, a capacity building campaign to raise $1.5 million.
