Brunswick Little Theatre Offers Youth Musical Theatre Training Brunswick Little Theatre is happy to offer an intensive musical theater training program for youth ages 11 through 18, the Musical Theater Apprentices. The program offers training in all aspects of musical theater--vocal production, stage movement, acting, and musical theater styles. Apprentices also gain experience in technical theater through hands-on work with assigned Brunswick Little Theatre productions. The faculty for the Musical Theatre Apprentices are Deborah Skillman, BM, MM, National Board Certified teacher in music, and American Orff Schulwerk Certified Teacher, and Bev Veenker, Professor Emeritus WKU, Theater and Dance. The Apprentice program is designed as a nine-month program, broken into semesters. Breaking the program into semesters allows for ease of scheduling around family and school calendars, as well as ease of fee payment. The first semester begins in September after Labor Day, and the second semester begins in January, culminating in a year end public revue in May. Apprentices attend one weekly class on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 until 3:30 PM, starting on September 9 at the theater’s home at 8068 River Road, Southport, NC. Individuals or small groups attend additional coaching sessions as needed, determined by the requirements of selections that make up the revue. Coaching sessions are scheduled in consultation with the designated apprentices and by appointment with the faculty. The Apprentice program has 17 total openings for students, first come first serve, due to space availability and instructional design. The fee for the training program is $100 per semester and is payable to Brunswick Little Theatre. A $50 non-refundable deposit will reserve a position. The $50 balance of the fee is due at the first class. Two students in the program will be by scholarship. Scholarship students will be determined by audition. The scholarship audition is held in August. Scholarship candidates can contact firstname.lastname@example.org for audition requirements. Potential students may register by calling Deborah Skillman at 470-5652 or emailing email@example.com.
