Intrepid Explorer Ede Baldridge finds a place to get away from it all, in the middle of downtown Wilmington!

Wilmington NC – Commentator Ede Baldridge has a knack for taking us to special places and showing us special sights.

This week finds her in the heart of downtown Wilmington, where a new mural by artist Virginia Wright-Frierson graces the Children's Room at the New Hanover County Public Library.

This celebrated son of North Carolina hails from Hamlet. But the music he made has been heard far and wide.

Wilmington NC – North Carolina Blue Notes features biographies and music of fifteen A-List Jazz and Blues artists who called North Carolina home. The program is produced for WHQR by music journalist Roberta Penn, and hosted by jazz artist and educator Dr. Maurice Martinez.

Search operations are underway for at least 180 people missing after a ferry capsized late Monday afternoon in Lake Tabo on Sumatra Island, during Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Millions of people travel home for the holiday, and the lake is crowded with boats during this time of year.

A search and rescue team, including divers and drones, is scouring the lake's depths, looking for those who were on board the ferry when it sank.
