Cinematique: "Inside Llewyn Davis" (New Time, 7PM)

Official Poster

Don't miss Joel and Ethan Coen's wonderful new film. Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) is at a crossroads. Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he's struggling to make it as a musician. Llewyn’s misadventures take him from the Village to an empty Chicago club—on an odyssey to audition for a music mogul—and back again.

Brimming with music performed by Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan, as well as Marcus Mumford and The Punch Brothers, Inside Lllewyn Davis is infused with the transportive sound of another time. (R, 1hr, 45 min)

Listener Ashley enjoyed a recent film at Cinematique. She wrote to Mary Bradley, who oversees our participation in this joint venture with Thalian Hall:

Will you please run The Book Thief a few more days?! We missed it at the theatre and I wasn't able to go when you ran it.

Mary replied,

I wish we could, but we have films booked for all the available times this month and next.

Doc-Week at Cinematique: "I Am Divine"

Harris Glenn Milstead liked musicals, was drawn to feminine pursuits, and was bullied. He played “dress-up games” as a child in his mother’s clothes. Once, he showed up at a party dressed as an astonishingly passable Elizabeth Taylor. After meeting a crowd of gay hipsters and freaks, Glenn started camping it up and smoking grass. In this group, Glenn met the man who was about to change his life - John Waters. Glenn and Waters bonded over their mutual love of cinema. With Waters’ encouragement, Glenn created a new acting persona, a new character.
