Midday Interview with Jemila Ericson

During our Classical block on Tuesdays through Fridays at 11:58 AM, Jemila Ericson and other staff members host a celebration of the arts and culture of the Lower Cape Fear. They interview artists, actors, dancers, writers and creators of community events--all the inspiring movers and shakers who enrich our lives.

Upcoming guests:   

Tuesday, November 18 Baring It 2 is a show comprised of monologues by ten local writers, currently at Browncoat Theatre. (Jemila will be out of the office helping a friend today, Gina Gambony will be sitting in for her)

Wednesday, November 19 Cape Fear Chorale presents two performances of a Fall Concert on Saturday and Sunday. Our guests will be Jim Glasenapp and Liz Halloran.

Thursday, November 20 George Boberg directs the Brunswick Concert Band. The group has an Autumn Concert coming up. 

Friday, November 21 Debra Gillingham (director) and Harper Peterson (actor) tell us about A Christmas Story, opening at City Stage. (This is the first show at City Stage which features a cast of predominantly children.)

Tuesday, November 25 Bill Hamlet and Jessica Schreiber discuss the Landfall Foundation's Holiday Marketplace, which raises grant money to benefit many local non-profits. 

Wednesday, November 26 Southport is home to The Dickens Celebration & Fezziwig's Ball. Sue McCallum and Jen Iapallucci invite us to come. 

Thursday, November 27 No Interview for Thanksgiving Day. Special Music Selection instead. 

Friday, November 28 Sea Notes Choral Society's Holiday Concert.

Midday Interview: Lynn Seldon on "Virginia's Ring"

Travel and food writer Lynn Seldon, a 1983 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, has written his first novel- based on his experiences at VMI.  Called "Virginia's Ring," it is a moving story that spans two generations. One of the South's most respected authors, Pat Conroy, befriended Lynn and encouraged him to write a book about VMI after Lynn expressed his admiration for Pat's book "Lords of Discipline." Midday Interview: Gail Burke and Ginny Thompson on "The Secret Garden Tour"

On Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 from 10am to 4pm , the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society hosts the annual Secret Garden Tour.  The tour this year features 12 gardens, both large and small, Old South and new experimental. There are also workshops about creating a Fairy Garden and arranging flowers for a Memorial Garden. For details and tickets ($15) visit hslcf.org. The Pender County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association presents its Fall Plant Sale this Friday from 12-6 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am -12 pm at Hampstead United Methodist Church. Master Gardener, Steve Bundy, Event Chair told us what to expect - including the opportunity to buy plants that are pollinators, deer resistant, drought resistant and salt resistant. Proceeds will benefit programs that bring gardening into Pender County Schools.

Filmmaker Joseph Johnson- Cami is in town to screen his two latest films: Line 9 (about the environmental impact of pipelines running through Alberta, Canada) and The Shift (an exploration of humans' disconnect from nature).
