WHQR Turns 29 Years Old!

On this day in 1984, the Friends of the Opera, supported by public radio lovers and volunteers, set up shop in a converted bar in a strip mall on Greenfield Street. From humble beginnings, WHQR grew into a strong community station supported by its faithful listeners. Thank you for all for your support and devotion to WHQR over these 29 amazing years! If the NPR voice you hear covering the Aurora, Colorado trial of James Holmes sounds familiar, there's a good reason. The reporter is Megan Verlee, a/k/a Megan Williams of Wilmington, who won six regional Edward R. Murrow awards as a reporter for WHQR and now reports for Colorado Public Radio.

Radiolab comes to WHQR this Sunday at 6PM

Longtime WHQR stalwart George Scheibner has been ill since early July. It took a while to diagnose what's wrong, but he's on the mend. He's recuperating at home but has been cleared by his doctor to return on a limited basis soon. Thanks to everyone sending best wishes!
