I’ve got an appetite for radio and not just in the metaphorical sense. My appetite is literal. In the same vein as the overused joke of “having a face for radio,” apparently I’ve got the stomach for it too. Since arriving at WHQR, I’ve been filled with constant indulges in local culture and news, but there’s a big part of the piece that doesn’t carry through to the airwaves.

WHQR's online streams are down but George Scheibner (Operations Manager) is working on restoring them right now. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Our 91.3fm and 92.6fm transmissions are operating as scheduled.

The Five Best Texts I Read in 2015

Jan 8, 2016

As an English Studies graduate student with a full-time internship at a public radio station, a teaching internship, a sometimes part-time job at a comedy club, and everything else that comes along with living life, pleasure reading is not something that I am able to do often. Don’t get me wrong, I read a lot (a whole lot!), but most of what I have read lately has been for academic purposes. The majority of it I like, but some of it is, to be quite frank, B-O-R-I-N-G.

I wanted to share a few great recipes – the most requested, every-year-on-the-table Thanksgiving favorites of my family. Most of these, my family and I have made for tens of years, but all have graced the holiday table every year since 2007 when we all found ourselves relocated to Wilmington.

Julia Bates Toone

The exquisite canvasses of Barbara Bear Jamison and Julia Bates Toone enjoyed an opening Fourth Friday reception in the MC Erny Gallery at WHQR on September 28. Together, these artists make a grand pair, with an abundant array of vibrant oils and watercolors. Take a walk with us through this exhibit...

Freshly-Cooked Boot at [Mini] Docutime 2012

Sep 21, 2012

Thanks for everyone that attended this year's [Mini] Docutime! Paula loved her boot!

On Sunday, September 16th, WHQR members, listeners and staff came together for an Ice Cream Social at Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington. Young and old alike shared in the fun as station staff put their backs into it and dug through frozen containers of delicious flavors like Strawberry White Chocolate, Vanilla, and Lemon Basil from Velvet Freeze.

The event was another way for WHQR to say "Thank You" for the generous support that keeps Public Radio vibrant and viable, year-round.  Make sure you browse all of the images in our photo gallery!
