Artistic Director of Big Dawg Productions, Steve Vernon is directing the upcoming show "The Hermit of Fort Fisher" by David Wright. Eben French Mastin stars as Robert E. Harrill, who lived in a WWII bunker at Fort Fisher for many years and became quite a tourist attraction. The show highlights interactions with the family he left behind and the visitors he enjoyed. It runs September 4-21, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundaya at 3pm at Cape Fear Playhouse on Castle Street.

Opera House Theatre Company present the mesmerizing musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim called "Into The Woods." In the first act we meet many familiar fairy tale characters and see how their stories interweave. By intermission many have found their "happily ever after." In the second act the characters find out what happens AFTER they got what they wanted ...or what they thought they wanted. Tonia Lovejoy is an educator and explorer who has created an organization called the Beautiful Nation Project. Its website offers a hug array of tools on many platforms to expand our understanding of how where we live affects how we live. She will be taking an all female crew of scientists, explorers and educators on her sailboat for an around-the-world trip starting September 15. The 2014 Landfall and Art show is Thursday through Saturday at the Landfall Dye Clubhouse. It runs from 10 am to 7 pm each day, with a cash bar provided from 5-7 pm. One hundred artists will be showing their work. Admission is free and 30% of the sales go to the Landfall Foundation, which helps support local non-profits. Madeline Flagler is the Executive Director of the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History. Every year they host a great fundraiser called Lumina Daze, which celebrates the spectacular Lumina Pavilion. The Lumina Pavilion was the star attraction on the beach from 1905 until 1973 when it was torn down. The event is this Sunday form 5-9 pm at The Blockade Runner Beach Resort.
