Primary Candidate Answer Questions about Education

Wilmington, NC – Martin Herring and incumbent Russell Tucker are the democratic candidates looking to challenge republican candidate Richard Kaiser.


Herring studied political science at Fayetteville State and is the father of a son. When asked what needs to be done to bring more qualified teachers to North Carolina schools, he says the state needs to offer competitive employment packages.

Wilmington's Corner Stores

Wilmington, NC – The small grocery stores scattered throughout downtown Wilmington are there as a convenient place to pick up eggs or milk.


But many of them also serve as a place where people gather to deal in illegal activity.


The store at 12th and Chestnut in downtown Wilmington sits on one corner targeted by the Wilmington Police Department.

Freeze on Sewer Hookups

Wilmington, NC – The moratorium on future hookups to the Northeast Interceptor kicks in on May 27th and will expire when work is completed on a segment along Shipyard Boulevard between Holly Tree Road and Stonewall Jackson Drive.


That work is expected to wrap up in November. But in his letter to city officials, the Division of Water Quality's Ed Beck said the moratorium could be extended if city engineering consultants find other critical segments needing repairs.

Building on the Cape Fear River

Wilmington, NC – The New Hanover County Planning Board has tabled a request for a special permit to build a development on the west bank of the Cape Fear River.


The complex called City View would include 400 dwelling units, retail outlets and office space on a plot of land just south of the Battleship North Carolina.


The development would house some of those units in a 260-foot tall tower that opponents say would be the tallest structure east of I-95.
